GAS – Screaming Irish FC 0 - 4
The Germans wanted to keep their run of undefeated matches, but against the Irish this was not an easy task.
The match started off quite OK with some fast counter attacks where Sascha and Florian had a couple of good chances, but missed. The Irish answer was a great 18m shot which was just inches away from the post, but on the outside. After about 15 min in the game the Irish striker worked his way in the box again and a nice shot found the target. The Germans had to fight hard to keep the Irish from scoring more and mid of the first half possession was with the Irish. Some individual attacks from the Germans made it through, so a nice second row shot from Heiko which went over the top.
On the other side John had a lot of work to do to keep the result for half time.
Hermann had the chance to equalize when he was alone in front of the keeper, but an excellent reaction of the Irish last man prevented the goal.
The second half continued where the first ended. Controlled playing by the Irish with nice passing and occasional counter attacks by the Germans. Again about 15 minutes into the second half some ping pong in the German box and the ball bounced against the hand of a defender. The penalty was hammered into the net, no chance for John. During the rest of the game he showed a series of great saves including a free kick in the corner that he nicely diverted over the cross bar. The German stickers remained unlucky and the few additional chances they had were not converted. The Irish on the other side scored another 2 and that was it. Great effort by the German squad and thanks for a nice and fair play by the Irish.
Man of the match: John, wer sonst
GAS - Hibernians 2 - 1
Finally the German All Stars brought home their first victory since they started in the ESPZEN midweek league.
The match started off with fairly even chances in the beginning. Both sides had their chances to score with just not enough luck to get the ball across the line.
The longer the first half went, the more confident the Germans got and started to gain more control over the game. Still they did not manage to score.
The second half was similar, but it took until the 65th minute before a fast attack was finally finished nicely. Consequently the Hibs were pushing for the equalizer. Most efforts were blocked early, but when they got through it was dangerous. Their efforts were rewarded after a cross into the box they lifted the ball above the keeper.
It seemed to end as a draw, but when the ball was not cleared properly from the Hibs goal, Markus-the-Joker stood less than 2m away from the post and managed to make the ball drop from his head right between the keeper and the post.
A strong performance by many of the German players, thanks to the Hibs for a competitive and fair game.
GAS - United Football Club 1 – 1
The good news: The German All Stars earned their first point in the midweek league. The bad news: It was only one.
The match started with strong play by BeerCellar United, good passing and the Germans not close enough with their opponents. Consequently it was a game in one direction for the first 10-15min where the Germans hardly made it into the opponents half. By the time things settled a bit, BeerCellar United had a quick counter attack which they converted nicely in the 18th minute. After this the game got more balanced without big chances on either side. It took until the 35th minute when German striker Florian was able to get in front of the defender and converted a nice cross for the equalizer. The second half was much better, the Germans were quicker to the ball, won in the midfield and passing improved too. Several corner kicks were promising in the BeerCellar's box but neither defenders nor strikers could control the ball and the final kick to the net was missing. In the last 3 minutes BeerCellar United got close to the German goal again but also their corner kick could not be converted.
GAS - Orchard Rovers 0 – 3
In a repeat of the match 2 weeks ago the German All Stars wanted to get away better than last time and they did – even though there are still no points to credit for the table. The start was typical for the German matches, missing the organization and Zuordnung and after 5 minutes it is 0:1 already. This should change shortly though. The defense got more organized and the attacks from the Rovers could be neutralized better. Still it remained a one sided game for some time, before the German midfield also got better and was able to play some passes sending the stikers off to score. Only they didn’t. It was the Rover’s striker who sneaked away in the 20” and gave no chance to Felix in the German goal. With increasing confidence in the defense, so more goals conceived on the German side, but also no scores. In the second half the picture remained the same. More opportunities for the Rovers, but nothing to count, German offense got a few chances themselves, but also no luck. Best chance to note was a header from Felix, but he missed the empty goal. So it was for the Rovers that they scored with a nice shot from 18 meters as the midfielder wasn’t attacked early enough and found the lower left corner. No chance for Sascha who was between the posts in the second half for the Germans. Some strong fighting in the midfield for the last 15-20”, but nothing spectacular to note on either side any more.
Orchard Rover - GAS 5 - 0
It couldn't have been a worse start to what looks to become a rather challenging campaign for the Geramn All Stars. Chaos ruled prior to kick-off as the Italian engineering masterpiece of step-in team manager Thomas broke down on the ECP, resulting in dire consequences: no manager (a strategic disadvanatge), no jerseys (a psychological disadvantage) and no gloves for the goalie (a much more tangible disadvantage). The opening minutes of the game were nonetheless promising. Some good passing from midfield serving lighting fast strikers Deniz and Nick created two excellent opportunities for the Germans. After 10 minutes the Germans could have taken the lead again when a curled in freekick from Florian connected with Nick's head but the ball sailed just over the crossbar. The Rovers side, now clearly awake, started to display a very solid and quick passing game. The German gave them well too much space and a combination of bad marking and sloppy defending put the game almost beyond the Germans.
3-0 it was at halftime when Thomas, jerseys and gloves arrived. The eagle and the flag reignited the necessary combat spirit, read: Kampfgeist, and surely nobody wanted to look bad in front of Thomas' watchful eyes. The Germans thus started with a great solo by Deniz, but u.nfortunately he missed the goal about half a meter.
The second half tunred out to mirror the first. An initially plucky performance was spoiled by two late goals: The Rovers scored in the 75th minute after yet another defensive error in the box. The B-Team didn't give up, though, and managed to create some more scoring opportunities against a less than sharp defence of the Rovers. :owever, Nick, Florian and Deniz were all not able to score the much hoped for "Anschlusstreffer". Instead the Rovers scored one more to make it 5:0 in the 83rd minute through a nice 16m shot.
The Rovers undoubtedly deservered their clear victory thanks to superior possession, passing and technical skills. Despite the heavy loss the first league game was good fun. Thanks to the Rovers for a good and fair game and, well, a footballing lesson or two ... Man of the match on the German side was Gin Tonic who perfomred a couple of nice saves.
